I offer therapy for children and young people experiencing emotional or psychological upset. This can be through a process of counselling or hypnotherapy. This is therapeutic help and intervention for children or young people with various symptoms or issues. These can include anxiety, habits, behaviours or psychological distress.

Isn’t good to know help and support is available for young people from a professional with decades of knowledge and experience. Help and support for the mental well being and mental health, of children and young people in Bath, Wiltshire and Somerset.

There is very little I have not heard or discussed with children. There are very few issues I have not dealt with and a limited number of symptoms I have yet to treat. I totally appreciate and respect that each child’s story is unique to them. And even though the behaviour and thoughts of young people are often similar to their peers, I never forget each story is totally unique for each individual child.

Why Children need Help

It is clear from recent reports, that children’s mental health and the mental well being of young people, has seen a decline in recent years. The pandemic in 2020, just added to an already ongoing issue. It is so important to get the right help and support for children in order to secure their future health and happiness.

The legacy of 2020 brought up many issues, worries or concerns for the well being of children and young people. Children have been exposed to situations and experiences, none of us foresaw. Anxiety levels in children and young people have increased. Worries about family, relationships, schooling and the future, all escalated.

The disruption to daily and weekly routine created a large hole, difficult to fill. The ‘not knowing’, caused a great deal of anxiety. Children for the most part, are very resilient and adaptable. However, their resilience and adaptability has been challenged. And continues to be challenged each and every day. This doesn’t mean children cannot cope. Many do, and do that very well. But not all, as even the strongest among them, are vulnerable to outside pressures or demands. Things, which are ultimately out of their control.

A Wealth of Experience Counselling Children

I have been offering counselling therapy to children for many years. I help children to fully focus on the things which matter to them. When I offer therapy to children, they are able to explore emotions and issues without being judged. The children I help learn that they will be taken seriously, whatever the issue and whatever they say.

My experience and expertise counselling children and young people, has taught me to be completely open and honest. I believe it is my sincerity and calm approach, which enables me to gain the trust of the children I meet. It has always been my firm belief, that any therapy, requires good rapport and a positive relationship for a successful working partnership.

Hypnotherapy with Children

Can hypnosis and hypnotherapy be used with children and will children respond well to this form of therapy?

The answer to whether or not hypnotherapy can be used to help children is definitely, yes it can! And very successfully help children.

When working with children, offering hypnotherapy, I induce a light state of hypnosis. This is quite natural and very safe for all children. Children experiencing therapy under hypnosis, hypnotherapy, will utilise their imagination. They will to drift off into their own inner world.  They may well dream up all kinds of adventures or stories, while under hypnosis.

Children can benefit from Hypnotherapy

While in this inner world, their inner mind, they can start to retrain or relearn, new ways to behave or think. Children are very creative and receptive to positive suggestions. They can comfortably and swiftly come up with solutions to most problems.

Nearly all the children I meet, have no experience of hypnotherapy. I am of very much aware of this and work with them accordingly. I aim to ensure children coming for hypnotherapy, are introduced to the process in a way that they understand and feel happy with.

Counselling or Hypnotherapy with Children

When counselling children, ordinarily I will work on a one to one basis. There can of course, be exceptions to this. If it is thought more beneficial for the child, that a parent stays in the room while a session takes place, then this can be a way forward. However, if part of the aim is to allow a child to speak freely and openly, it us most likely the parent will not be present.

Children’s therapy utilising hypnosis, is slightly different. When I work with children under hypnosis, such as hypnotherapy, a parent always stay in the room. This is required for all young people under the age of sixteen. Parents can therefore observe the therapy process. They can ensure that the process is relaxed, gentle, safe and positive.

Therapy Sessions with Children

All sessions of children’s hypnotherapy include positive suggestions, for confidence and self-esteem. Again, there can be exceptions for young people sixteen plus. Especially at the beginning, when they may prefer the support of a parent to lessen any undue anxiety.

Whether I am counselling children or offering  hypnotherapy to children, everything I do is calm, gentle and positive. The therapy process is aimed at helping the child, overcome their present issue or ongoing symptom.

So, it is important for me, that both you and your child can feel comfortable. I want you both to feel confident and at ease with any therapy I offer.

Confidentiality and your child’s welfare is my prime concern. Everything I do or say, is only ever done with that in mind. Please see my statement on confidentiality on my session information page.
