Counselling therapy for children
Tim Langhorn has worked therapeutically with many children and young people, in many environments , over many years with regard a whole host of issues. Tim works in a person centred counselling therapeutic way and thereby allowing children to explore those issues without being judged. They soon learn that they will be taken seriously and I will have their best interests at heart, whatever they bring and whatever they say.
Hypnotherapy with children
Can hypnotherapy be used with children? Well the answer to whether or not hypnotherapy can be used to help children with habits, behaviours or psychological issues or symptoms, is yes it can! And very successfully.
Tim induces a light state of hypnosis, which is quite natural and very safe, where the child may not seem at first sight to be in anything other than in a ‘day dreamy’ state. This day dream like state is something children do all the time. They will regularly use their imagination to drift off into their own mind, into their own inner world, dreaming up all kinds of adventures or stories. And it is while they are in this inner world, their inner mind, what us adults call the unconscious mind, they can start to retrain or relearn new way to behave or think. Children’s minds are really creative and receptive to positive suggestions and can comfortably and swiftly come up with solutions to problems.
The kinds of issues where counselling or hypnotherapy can help are:
- Nail Biting
- Thumb Sucking
- Low Self Esteem
- School Phobia
- Bad Dreams
- Anxieties or Worries
- Sleeping Difficulties
- Coping with Being Bullied
- Low in Confidence
- Exam Stress
- Fear of Animals or Insects
- Social Anxiety
Counselling or Hypnotherapy with Children
When using counselling therapy with children or young people I usually work on a one to one basis. However, there are exceptions to this and it is not unusual that a parent stays in the room while the session takes place.
With hypnotherapy for children and young people parents always stay in the room, so the parent, child or young person will feel more at ease. This is especially the case as for most people coming to me for hypnotherapy, this would be the first time they have experienced this form of therapy. Parents can then see for themself that the process is relaxed, gentle, safe and positive. All sessions of hypnotherapy include positive suggestions for confidence and self esteem, whatever the issue.
Whatever the therapy, whether counselling or hypnotherapy, everything is calm, gentle and positive and is aimed at helping the child or young person overcome their present issue or ongoing symptom.
It is important that both you and your child can feel comfortable, confident and at ease with me the therapist. Confidentiality and your child’s welfare is my prime concern and everything I do or say is only ever done with that in mind. You can decide for yourself about me and the therapy I offer when we meet for your free initial consultation, where we can all decide how to take things forward.
