Counselling children 7yrs and above on a one to one basis. There can of course, be exceptions to this. If it is thought more beneficial for the child that a parent stays in the room while a session takes place. However, if part of the aim is to allow a child to speak freely and openly, it us most likely the parent will not be present.
The therapy process is aimed at helping the child overcome the thoughts or feelings which bother them most. I consider the age and maturity of each child’s ability to access constructively the counselling process. It can feel a tad daunting for children, especially the first few times they come. I will do his best to ensure your child feel safe and comfortable.

Why Children need Help
It is clear from recent reports that children’s mental health, and the mental well being of young people, has seen a decline in recent years. The pandemic just added to an already ongoing issue. So, it is important to get the right help and support for children, in order to secure their future health and happiness.
In recent times children have been exposed to situations and experiences, none of us foresaw. Anxiety levels in children and young people have increased. Worries about family, relationships, schooling and the future, all escalated.
Children for the most part are very resilient and adaptable. However, their resilience and adaptability can be challenged each and every day. This doesn’t mean children cannot cope. Many do, and do that very well. But not all. As even the strongest among them are vulnerable to outside pressures or demands. Things which are often out of their control.
A Wealth of Experience Counselling Children
I have been counselling children for many years. My aim is to help children to focus on the things which matter to them. So they are able to explore issues and emotions without being judged. Children I work with soon learn they will be taken seriously, whatever the issue and whatever they say.
Counselling children and young people, has taught me to be completely open and honest. It is my sincerity and calm approach, which enables me to gain the trust of the children I meet. It has always been my firm belief that therapy requires good rapport and a good relationship to achieve success.
It is important for me, that both you and your child can feel comfortable with the process of counselling. I want you both to feel confident and at ease with any therapy I offer.
Confidentiality and your child’s welfare is my prime concern. Everything I do or say, is only ever done with that in mind. Please see my statement on confidentiality on my session information page.
